Client Portfolio Analyst

Working Relationships:

This role reports to the Director of Investments in Johannesburg and has a strong working relationship with the Investment team in Johannesburg. Other working relationships include general Stonehage Fleming

Relationship Managers in Cape Town and Johannesburg, internal and external asset managers and linked investment service providers.

Principal Elements and Accountabilities:

  • Conducts suitability assessment of clients and analysis of client affairs (fact find)
  • Ensure proper take-on of new clients and coordinates process from taken-on, through implementation, to periodic and ad hoc portfolio review
  • Prepare and oversee portfolio implementation plans
  • Investment proposal and ad hoc and periodic review generation
  • Perform quality checks and checking for completeness reviews; reconciliation and auditing of performance data
  • Maintain schedule of how frequently client circumstances change and portfolios require review
  • Ongoing monitoring of client portfolios ‐ preparing trade recommendations and re-balancing of portfolios
  • Assist with trade execution & monitoring of trades through to settlement
  • Periodic and ad-hoc attending of client meetings; preparation of meeting packs, including but not limited to portfolio performance report (through a relationship with SF reporting team), market and portfolio commentary (through relationship with the investment research and strategy teams), notes on current events domestically and abroad etc.
  • Prepare feedback to general client queries and ad hoc investment analysis requests
  • Ability to effectively communicate latest Stonehage Fleming investment views and remaining up to date with current domestic and global market/economic situation
  • Dealing with day-to-day/administrative internal/external and client requests

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure that client files are properly set‐up and maintained electronically
  • Ensure clients adhere to approved fund manager list, asset allocation targets & limits
  • Maintain record of client advice
  • Complete necessary regulatory representative examinations

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Business, Economics or Investment related degree, preferably with Honours. CFA or studying towards advantageous.
  • 3 - 5 years relevant experience in the finance / investment industry

Skills:

  • Strong general investment knowledge critical, i.e. economy, financial markets, asset classes and portfolio management with keen interest in investments
  • MS Office (Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • A track record of overall integrity
  • Attention to detail and relationship management skills important
