Marketing & Events Manager

The role will take responsibility for the planning, development and implementation of the Stonehage Fleming marketing function in South Africa. The role will include, but is not limited to, the supervision of external and internal communications, branding, sponsorships and marketing collateral at a local level. The role is also actively involved in identifying opportunities across the business to support business development. This requires close collaboration with colleagues across the various business divisions and therefore requires occasional travel between Cape Town and Johannesburg. The role is supported by Group Marketing and involves close collaboration with the team.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. PUBLIC RELATIONS, SOCIAL MEDIA AND EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

  • Manage the PR function in conjunction with the externally appointed PR agency including coordination of content generation, journalist interviews and all information or editorial requests with local spokespersons
  • Support and manage any social media specifically related to the South African business including LinkedIn training and advocacy
  • Support and coordinate the compliance approval process for all external communication for South African as a jurisdiction
  • Coordinate SA specific updates for the Group website (e.g. biographies and media articles) as well as ad hoc photo shoots for senior staff
  • Oversee the compilation and distribution of external communications to clients and other third parties (e.g. fund fact sheets, equity insights, product launches, strategic alliances and Know How bulletins)
  • Monitoring and evaluation of the industry landscape, such as ongoing competitor analysis and data gathering, as well as the coordination of research projects

2. EVENTS, CONFERENCES, CORPORATE HOSPITALITY & SPONSORSHIPS

  • Plan, coordinate and execute key client events in conjunction with the Family Office and Investment Management teams, including the Next Gen Programme in South Africa
  • Assist other Group offices with events hosted in South Africa
  • Manage and coordinate all SA conference speaking engagements and assist with supporting materials as required
  • Update the Group-wide event schedule timeously
  • Manage and coordinate SA hospitality requests
  • Manage and negotiate relevant corporate sponsorships in SA
  • Assist with all SA charitable sponsorship initiatives and donations and coordinate brand support with charities – logos, events, branding, websites, PR etc.

3. INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

  • Coordinate internal announcements on The Hub (Intranet) for the South African business
  • Oversee and create internal communication campaigns in conjunction with SA Exco/Business Heads; this includes philanthropic initiatives arranged by the offices
  • Internal communication management around special projects (e.g. product launches, local fund launches and senior hires)
  • Assist SA Exco with strategic staff and business updates
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with HR as a support function for internal communication
  • Provide relevant newsletter content on behalf of the South African business for the Group Newsletters

4. BRANDING

  • Custodian of the Stonehage Fleming brand in South Africa – ensuring compliance with Group corporate identity standards across all Marketing channels
  • Manage the production and design of all branded marketing collateral and corporate gifts for South Africa including stationery, service brochures, corporate brochures, folders, research papers, product notes and advertising when required
  • Manage SA specific updates on the Group website
  • Ensure all presentations and materials are professional and within brand guidelines for SA, including compliance approval
  • Coordinate any brand reputation management training (e.g. media training) for employees in SA as required
  • Overseeing the stock and supply of marketing collateral and corporate stationery for the South African business

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Marketing or related courses with marketing major or related subjects
  • Five + years’ marketing experience preferably from a professional services background
  • Proven expertise in the full spectrum of marketing specifically PR, communications and event management
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, both face-to-face and via telephone
  • Advanced skill level of Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Experience in working and negotiating with various suppliers including print, design, digital and PR agencies
  • Experience in working closely with Senior Executives

  • Hands-on marketing operations role which requires detailed planning, multi-tasking, coordination and seamless execution
  • Not a specialist/creative role, requires more general marketing skills with strong attention to detail
  • Big picture thinking and part of an international Group and team, but requires local focus, implementation and accountability
  • Time allocation: Events 40%; PR 25%; General marketing/branding 25% and admin 10%
  • People skills essential as job involves working with and sometimes managing staff on all levels
  • Adaptable, resilient, ability to think on your feet and be proactive
  • Team player who is capable of working independently and use initiative
  • Flexible – willingness to work after hours to manage client events, primarily in Cape Town and Johannesburg
