Christopher Donnelly is a British defence, security and foreign affairs specialist. He helped establish and then headed the British Army’s Soviet Studies Research Centre at RMA Sandhurst (1969 – 1989).

He was a member of Margaret Thatcher’s Soviet Advisory team. From 1989-2003 he was a special adviser to four NATO Secretary Generals and for ten years was helping with the reform of the new emerging democracies of Central and Eastern Europe, especially their armed forces. In 2010 he became the co-director of the Institute of Statecraft dealing with new forms of conflict. He has been a special adviser to three UK Defence Secretaries (both Labour and Conservative). He is Honorary Colonel, Specialist Group Military Intelligence. He is the Principal Adviser to Renova Associates Ltd.
