2. Adventures in art – a week in the life of a collection manager

Day Two! Tuesday...

Tuesday morning starts with a visit to a painting conservator’s studio in South London to view the progress of the restoration of two Old Master paintings.

In the afternoon, it’s time to draft a loan agreement for two artworks to be exhibited in Paris and New York in a major exhibition. We speak to the museum’s registrar to review the logistics. The artwork is extremely large, fragile and highly valuable and the process for packing and shipping the work will be complicated.

Later, a client is interested in purchasing a new artwork for their collection so we research the artist’s valuation and sale history and put together a market report.

The afternoon ends with a team meeting to discuss the approach to the valuation of large collection of modern and contemporary art.

It’s the end of the day…but not quite! In the evening, it’s off to a gallery opening in Soho.
