Stonehage Fleming is delighted to be dedicated supporters of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation and have been collaborating with Afrika Tikkun to deliver the award in recent years. In honour of South Africa Youth Day, we connected with students from various centres to celebrate their achievements.
Afrika Tikkun is dedicated to supporting over 400 young underprivileged South Africans. This Spring, they successfully hosted graduation ceremonies for Bronze and Silver participants at various locations across South Africa.
We are thrilled to celebrate a total of 215 graduates, including 111 Bronze and 104 Silver level achievers.
Students are left with a newfound sense of personal growth, exploring various talents along the way. "This programme has taught me whatever life throws at you, throw it back.” – Said Amahle, a Bronze Award Holder. “The skills I acquired were truly remarkable. Painting has become a new outlet for my creativity.”
Many facilitators and teams in the centres have also seen the positive effects of the programme. “It is so beautiful to see how this programme, in a few months, can change their perspective and the way these young people view life,” said Precious, an award coordinator. “It has changed their mindset completely. The Award has allowed these young people to plan for their careers, to plan for their goals.”
There is a host of success stories from across the centres. Silver Level participant, Japhta, is a coach for the girls' soccer team in Diepsloot where he shares his knowledge and training skills with the team to help develop their understanding of the game, stay active and positive in sport.
Silver Participants Jacky (Wings of Life Centre), Fortune (Uthando Centre), Segopotso (Uthando Centre), Bokamoso (Uthando Centre), and Titus (Arekopaneng Centre) participated in the Rockies Run Race at Wanderers on 27 August, running 21 kms.
Additionally, they all received the opportunity to travel to Germany for the Carglass Bike Challenge and the United Kingdom for SOBC due to their commitment to the programme.
Stonehage Fleming is delighted to be part of that journey. Best wishes to all the students embarking on their thrilling adventures as they explore their potential in the years to come.
