The security megatrend considers the increased focus by government and
corporations to boost the security of energy, food,
and technology now and in the years ahead.
This isn't necessarily a new phenomenon,
but it's definitely been accelerated as the result of Covid supply chain
disruption, the war in Ukraine and other geopolitical tensions.
These events have driven sizable changes in the trade of goods and commodities
and have shifted both government and corporate priorities to focus on domestic
production and supply chains.
Another really interesting theme within the security megatrend is around
securing domestic supply chains.
US Rail railroad companies have been poised to benefit from the logistical
supply chain disruptions caused by Covid, which is accelerated,
a practice known as Nearshoring or French shoring.
So this is the practice by which manufacturers shift their supply chains
onshore or near to shore,
to friendly economies such as Mexico or close by neighbors.
So by doing this,
they can benefit from reducing costs and also increasing the stability of the
supply chains.
