Last month, our London office had the pleasure of hosting our 2024 Next Gen programme, where a group of 30 young people took part in interactive sessions covering leadership, family dynamics, communication, and the fundamentals of finance and business.
There've been some extraordinary sessions this week.
Every session has had a really interesting
lesson or message.
The overarching theme
of almost every session we've had has been
the importance of purpose.
Today, I talked about failure,
but really the importance of failure in terms of learning
and helping to develop.
Today we talked about the perception of privilege.
Growing up with privilege means
that there are certain expectations and pressures on you
and an outside lens.
That means that people expect
to see certain things from you.
One of the key activities I've been involved in,
in is helping the next gen candidates refine
and formalize their business pitches as part
of our Stone egg Fleming Dragons den.
The next generation program has been created on the back
of our experiences of working
with families from around the world.
The idea is to improve their teamwork skills, their
communication skills, emphasizing the importance
of personalizing.
We talk about responsibility.
We talk about leadership, entrepreneurialism,
communication about failure, wellbeing.
It's a fantastic week.
I think they all take something different away.
Our definition of success,
however, is have we helped them start a conversation?
We're doing this because it sits at the heart
of everything we do as a family office.
