Our ability to provide end-to-end global solutions differentiates us from other law firms. If a client were to use another advisory practice, they would need to obtain separate foreign tax advice and then appoint a corporate service provider to implement the advice. Working with our colleagues in various jurisdictions, we are able to provide considered cross border tax solutions. We are also able to assist with the set-up and implementation of the advice
Our tax advisory team is made up of both lawyers and accountants. The result is that we understand both the legal and financial impact of our advice, resulting in bespoke commercial solutions.
Sitting within a multi-family office has several key advantages for a tax advisory team. It provides us with a broad, nuanced understanding of a family and their circumstances that an independent advisory practice may not have access to. Those details have a bearing on the advice we give. We are not giving advice in a vacuum.
Emigration has been on the agenda for 10-15 years for HNW families in South Africa. Migration to other jurisdictions has always been driven by a combination of political, economic and family factors.
We also work with many corporate clients to expand their corporate structures to access growth opportunities abroad ranging from exports to direct investments. Many have set up investment structures in the UK, Europe and elsewhere in Africa, particularly Mauritius.
I enjoy the problem-solving aspect of my work. Tax laws are always changing. We are required to come up with bespoke solutions, often working with colleagues in several jurisdictions. Innovative solutions to address legislative changes are required all the time.
